NicP PARKING PROBLEMS IN RABE STREET · read more »

We received the following message via the website and would like to have our readers' comments. Do you live in the area and have a similiar experience?

"Just want to bring a problem under your attention.

There are two street blocks in Rabe street between Market and Schoeman street where the most part on both sides is clearly marked with no stopping signs. There are also clear red signs on the road itself.

However this does not seem to stop people from parking on the marked areas. Keep in mind that your not allowed to stop there never mind park your car. This cause a big problem on the peak hours of the day. For example in the morning between 07h00 and 08h00, lunch time and at the end of the working days.

I have also in the almost two years of using this road never seen a traffic officer handing out tickets in this area. Maybe you can look at the possibility of making it a clamp zone where your car will get clamped and you have to pay the fine before you can drive off? Or more strict policing. Thank you."

Heineken I'm a unisa student and in the last couple of years during which we write exams we use that specific area to park as there are nowhere else close to park to the examination centre. those lines was never there, even in June when we wrote exams. now all of a sudden these lines are there, i have recieved a parking fine of R500 for parking my car there, and since then i haven't parked there, and sometimes i see traffic officers give out fines on a daily basis. My problem is, we as the students who use our own transportation struggle to park close by and still be in time to get to the examination centre, where else must we park?? Landdros Marè is a busy street, if not the busiest, all around the unisa exam centre there are government buildings and you shouldn't dare of parking there... so where else must we stop???

NicP The traffic department came back to us and said that they do have law enforcement there. Some cars have been impounded and tickets were issued. If we read the traffic department's reply together with the reply of the student above, it shows that it is indeed difficult to satisfy everyone. We suggest that all parties try to be tolerant towards each other and understand each others' frustrations. Thank you for your using MyPolokwane!
