FREEFLY ASTRONAUT AT THE RANCH BOOGIE

A highlight of this years symposium will be a presentation on the 'FreeFly Astronaut Project' by Olav Zipser.

Olav is respectfully known as the 'Father of FreeFly', and is one of the more interesting and accomplished skydivers in the world.

Shortly after The Ranch Boogie he will put on his specially designed Supersonic Spacesuit and ascend in an Interorbital Rocket (at a ridiculous speed) to 131 000ft. From the edge of space he will then FreeFly back to earth. Breaking the sound barrier with his physical body he will set new records for the highest, longest, and fastest skydive ever - one time!

And that is just the first of a planned series of increasingly higher altitude rocket launches, culminating with a dive from above the Karman line (100km up!). The FreeFly Astronaut Project is not a stunt, it is a research mission to amass a new collection of experimental data that will help to create human capability to descend safely from the edge of space.

Olav's FreeFly Astronaut Project is just one of the interesting presentations lined up as part of The Ranch Boogie and Symposium. For those that don't know who Olav Zipser is, check this link http://www.freeflyastronaut.com (his achievements are listed at thebottom of the link). We are honoured to have the 'Father of FreeFly' at this event. Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/FreeFly-Astronaut-Project/249289161775970

SKYDIVING BOOGIE AND SYMPOSIUM - ALL THE INFO!

http://www.stoprhinopoaching.com/

The Ranch Skydiving Boogie and Symposium was held at Polokwane for the first time in 2011.

The event was such a success that the organsisers did as promised and returned with the second boogie.

Here are all the info and contact info you will need to be part of this super-exciting event:

The Ranch SkyDiving Boogie and Symposium 2012
Thursday 9th August (National Woman's Day) to Sunday 12th August
Protea Hotel Ranch Resort (25km south of Polokwane, Limpopo Province) South Africa.

Organised and run by Mike Rumble and Graham Field (known instigators of fun and excitement in skydiving circles), the Parachute Association of South Africa (PASA) sanctioned 'Ranch SkyDiving Boogie and Symposium' is regarded as South Africa's Premier Skydiving and Parachuting event.

Hosted by SkyDive Rustenburg at the luxurious Protea Hotel Ranch Resort the event attracts sport, competition, professional, and military skydivers and parachutists from across Southern Africa.

At this year's Ranch SkyDiving Boogie and Symposium at least two South African Skydiving record attempts will be overseen by Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI, the World Air Sports Federation) skydiving judges.

On National Women's Day the Sport Skydivers Association (SSA) Formation Skydiving (FS) Committee will be attempting an all female South African 16way Formation Skydiving record. At the event the SSA Artistic Events (AE) Committee will also be building up to an ambitious South African
FreeFly record.

Olav Zipser (world-renowned skydiver and 'Father of FreeFly') is coming straight from the 80Way practice jumps happening in preparation for the opening of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Russia, to be part of the FreeFlying at the event.

At the Boogie, two Turbine Atlas Angel Aircraft will drop skydivers continuously from 08:30 to sunset from Thursday 9th August (National Women's Day) to Sunday 12th August.

Numerous professional skydivers from all over South Africa will be available to take members of the public for Tandem Introductory Skydives at the event.

Interested members of the public are invited to come to the event to 'discover' what skydiving and parachuting in the 21st Century is all about.

Announced throughout each day of the event there will be a number of short interesting presentations on various elements and aspects of skydiving and parachuting. A number of presentations will be open to the public, and provided at no charge, in the interest of promoting sports skydiving. Certain presentations will be for experienced skydivers only. The highlight of  the symposium will be a presentation on Olav Zipser's  'FreeFly Astronaut Project'. Olav will talk about the increasingly higher altitude Interorbital Rocket Launches from which
he will FreeFly back to earth wearing a specially developed supersonic spacesuit. In doing this he will not only break all high altitude jump records, but will also break the sound barrier with his physical body (and be the first person to do so).

The 'FreeFly Astronaut Project' is not a stunt. It is a research mission to amass a new collection of experimental data on rapid FreeFlying descent from zones between orbital Extra-Vehicular Activity (space walking beyond the Earth's appreciable atmosphere) and high altitude aircraft operations. This project culminates with a dive from above the Karman Line (100km), a real space altitude.

The scientific data will be gathered to develop a safe return method that will benefit the global aerospace industry and will help to create human capability to descend safely from the edge of space. It will enhance the safety of mankindʼs future space pilots, space pioneers and space tourists, and may even be the birth of a new extreme sport with unlimited potential!

Zipser's 'FreeFly Astronaut Project' will be one of several  informative and inspiring presentations as part of the Saturday Evening Function.

The cost for the Saturday Evening Function is R 280 per person, and includes a buffet dinner and entertainment (DJ Ed). Tickets can be purchased in advance as part of event registration (for sport skydivers); by contacting the event organisers in advance (for general aviators); or at the event (for interested members of the public). The dress code is informal and there will be a cash bar. The function starts at 18:30 on the Saturday of the event.

Members of the Public wishing to come to the event should report to the main hotel swimming pool area / event registration where they will be welcomed, shown the public areas and informed of the day's program. Individuals and groups wishing to book Tandem Introductory Skydives on specific days or times can pre-book in advance direct with the organisers, or rock up, register, and take the next available opportunity to jump!  RanchBoogie@gmail.com / 078 029 4803

The SANDF saw the event as an ideal opportunity to enhance cooperation whilst learning and sharing ideas by participating at events outside of the military and, promoting military interest in sport skydiving, held a mini accuracy meet with military and civilian entrants as part of the event.

In short it was an awesome friendly, relaxed, jump in the pool, walk with the lions, sing around the camp fire, no politics social skydiving gathering at the luxurious Ranch Resort.

The 2011 event also enjoyed massive media exposure and was featured on local and national television (SABC 1, 2 and 3, News, Sport, Morning Live and Weekend Live), on local and national radio (Capricorn FM and Jacaranda FM), and in both online media (MyPolokwane, This Tourism Week), in newspapers (Polokwane Observer, Capricorn Voice, Northern Review, Daily Star, Platinum Weekly), and in magazines (African Pilot).'Skydive for Rhinos'
