Traffic cops with serious disabilities
It is so nice to see that the Limpopo traffic police employ the disabled. Was these cars specially adapted to take wheel chairs? I know the one "lady" had no problem with her voice (no disability) as she shouted "what is your issue". I think my "issue" is quite clear, madam. By the way there were another 3-4 members hanging around in the shade and it was 12:45.
Late breakfast early lunch..... or just not in the mood to work?
Best part........... nothing will happen

License Renewal for Plant Hire Company
Dear Mr Stoltz
We are a small plant hire company operating in Polokwane for the last 7 years.
We came to your department on the morning of Thursday30 December 2010 to renew licenses for 2 tipper trucks, a Hino horse and a TLB. The total fees payable were R49,820.
On arrival, the Department was closed (apparently on long-weekend) and we could not pay our fess.
As a result, there are now penalties payable and the total now is R55,717. That is, R5,797 more due to your department taking leave not on a public holiday, and without informing the public.
I think this is grossly unfair. We complied with our deadline, and I trust you will look into this matter and reverse these ludicrous charges.
Details as follows :
Company : Numan Investments CC
Natis No. : Z020749220023
Tipper 1 Registration No. : BYR684L
Tipper 2 Registration No. : BYR687L
Hino Registation No.: FKN707N
TLB Registration No.: BYR683L
Yours sincerely
Nick Spotswood

Traffic circles - education needed
Louis Boshoff writes:
I just have a question about traffic circles.
If one is at a circle do the rule still apply that you have to give right of way from the right. Or do you have to give right of way from both sides. The reason I ask this is that seem to be a lot of confusion at the numerous circles we have in the city.
My cousin had also written her learners drivers licence a while ago and in the study book it clearly states that you have to give right of way from the right.
So I was wondering if it will be at all possible to maybe try and have a campaign to bring this under the drivers of the city's attention. Because I think it's a new thing in the city it will be good to let the motorist know how to handle it.
I can not tell you how many times I was nearly involved in accidents because people does not give right of way from the rigt.
Take care
NicP
not happy with the way street vendors are handled
For the passed 3 years i have been talking to the municipality about the hawkers that are trading all over town without permission. They said they were under staffed once, and other times they said it was a B E E thing .Do they no what they are talking about or is that just to shut you up. after doing some research and read the 2010\2011 draft integrated development plan there is some mention about the vendors ,so please assist them and explain them what is the requirements and lets move forward
HIKING PEOPLE IN THE MORNING
I drive almost every day to westenburg in the morning so passing corner of dahl and devenish in the morning is a chaos especially sehsego taxis and westenburg taxis just stopping in the middle of the road when robot is green and loading passengers without any fear and the driver just look left when you try to question him why he did so.
Other thing is next to the main entrance of traffic dept in the morning when people working from trade centre and coke hiking and traffic officers failing to warn motorist just doorstep from the yard and control room sees nothing come on polokwane wake up ke nako to get your house in order

Traffic officer shortage
I am an ex-traffic officer from Polokwane and would love to go back there. Ever since I re-located from Polokwane to Tshwane, it's been a disaster trying to get back into my profession. I saw too late that there were 5 positions available in February 2010, but will keep an eye on the website and continue to apply untill I get appointed back.
Polokwane's a great place and there's great people there.
Ex Cop & Polokwane Lady.
Traffic control systems
Paul,
Have you spoken to the head of the Traffic Department at 015 290 2401?
NicP
Traffic control systems
Where can I find out what traffic control systems are used. In Makhado they use a Siemens ME traffic control system and they have asked me to help them with the maintenance but this will only be viable if there are other municipalities that use this system.
Regards
PAUL
Traffic problem in Landdros Mare Street
lusvegter sent a message using the contact form on MyPolokwane:
I am sick and tired of the traffic in Landros Mare street between Jorrisen and Thabo Mbeki streets. I want to know what the traffic department is going to do about the people double parking in this above mentioned area.
It is becoming ludicrous to put it lightly.
Just an half hour ago I was driving back from lunch and counted 12 cars in this two block area. And other days its not a lot better. This whole week I have not seen one cop car or cop in this area trying to write this people some tickets or warning them to drive on.
This is causing the traffic not to flow. Making people that obey the laws of the road very angry because we are not able to use the road because its been blocked by double parking cars.
Can I please get some feedback on this because its driving us all mad.
REPLY:
lusvegter,
We took the matter up with the the traffic department.
Mr Mokona of Traffic says they will start patrolling that section of Landdros Mare Street from tomorrow (Wednesday 21 July) 06:00 and will give special attention to the problem.
Please let us know if the problem persists
UPDATE:
The complainent sent his message on 23 July 2009:
"Thank you for the effort to get some attention on the problem. It seems that it is a little better already. The real test will be tomorrow because Fridays is normally the worst time for the problem. Thanks again for your trouble."

Polokwane Municipality traffic and licencing
What you need to renew a drivers licence in Polokwane
- 3 x Black and White ID photos
- ID book
- 1 x copy of ID
- Old licence if you still have it
- R184,00
If you lose your drivers licence, you need the same documents as above but the amount payable is only R87,00.
The office hours of the traffic and licencing section is 08:00 - 16:30 on weekdays although the cashiers close at 15:00 becasue that is the time the computer system is programmed togo offline. Don't blame the cashier fi she can't help you after 15:00. She has no choice. If you need to pay a traffic fine, you can do it till 15:30 on weekdays because that is managed in a different section.
Traffic fines
Management at the traffic section would like to draw your attention to the fine print at the bottom of your traffic fine. Only fines issued by municipal traffic officers can be paid at the traffic department.
Fines issued by provincial traffic inspectors must be paid at the Polokwane Magistrate's court. The same goes for traffic fines issued in other towns. Those must be paid in the town where the fine was issued and not at the Polokwane traffic department.
Vehicle licence renewals
Please take note that no vehicle licences will be renewed if any licence on your name is still unpaid.
Remember that old trailer in the back-yard under the mulberry tree? Yes the one without wheels where the chickens sleep? You forgot to deregister it and therefore the officials at the municipality will send you away empty handed and will not renew your 4x4's licence unless you also pay the trailer licence and all arrears.
All licences for all vehicles on your name must be paid before the municipality will renew any vehicle licences.
Structure of the traffic and licencing sections of the Polokwane Municipality
- The whole division is managed by a Director: Community Services
- The Manager Traffic and Licences manages both sections
- The traffic section is managed by its own head and
- The licencing section has its own head.
Make sure what you want to complain about, so you know to ask for the right person.
Traffic department
People often complain about the lack of visibility of traffic officials.
What duties fall under the traffic section?
- School groups must be received and training and information about traffic rules must be given
- Special services such as escorts for extra heavy vehicles through the municipal area, burial escorts and temporary closing of roads for earthworks or use of explosives.
- Accidents in the municipal area
- Investigation of complaints by the public about transgressions of the local bylaws such as obstruction of traffic
- Special operations such as checking for overloaded vehicles and road worthiness where officials must be made available to operate the weighbridge and test vehicles
- Point service at schools and difficult crossings in peak times. The traffic department has trained a number of civilians to assist with traffic control in Polokwane.
- Visible policing to discourage the transgression of traffic laws
- Enforcing municipal bylaws related to street vendors, parking meters, illegal posters on robots and traffic signs, illegal car washers, temporary advertisements, banners, posters and advertising trailers
What the public should keep in mind
Polokwane does not have enough traffic officials to deploy at all busy traffic intersections.
The Polokwane Traffic Department must provide services in four clusters, namely Polokwane, Chuene Maja, Mankweng and Moletji.
