Vic Like usual, the heritage and history of the other “citizens” of the city/country is left to its own devices!! Why? Nothing is sacred anymore, not our heritage, not our history, not our culture and not even our elders!!!

NicP WHY OUR STREETS DON'T LAST · read more »

You don't have to be an engineer to see that filling holes in the street without removing the grass that grew inside the pothole will not solve the problem for long.

The repair work on Polokwane's streets usually do not last long and this may be one of the reasons.

NicP Mayor Makunyane speaks at laying of foundation stone of Mall of the North · read more »

Mayor Thabo Makunyane officially laid the foundation stone of Mall of The North on 28 October 2009.

Mall of the North, a R100m investment, will not only be the biggest property investment in Limpopo to date, but also the biggest shopping mall North of Prtetoria.

Johann Kriek of Resilient Property Income Fund said it was most appropriate that the mayor would lay the stone as he was a supporter of the investment from the first day.

It was also revealed that WBHO, the contractors of Peter Mokaba Stadium as well as Mall of the North, moved some of their workers over to the Mall of the North as the stadium had been completed. The Mall of the North project now gives work to nearly 2000 people.

Patrick Flanagan of Flanagan & Gerard, a partner in the project, said everything are going well and the project is on schedule for opening in April 2011.

Church unlawfull build in high residential area

We, residents of Spoorweg street Ladanna are complaining about the Church been buid on 70 Spoorweg street, we were never been informed about the church to be build, no rezoning took place, We landlords had to spend lots of money to get our places rezoned for residential expention.

The main complaint is the the people from the chuch does not take our residents in considderation when keeping church, they start with church Monday to Friday from 17h00 - 21h00 and Saturday and Sundays from just after 06h00 in the moning till 21h00 at night (no time bounded). Their music is so load, to close once doors and windows does not help at all, some of the residents try to escape the noise and get into their vehicles and fled for the day, we can't do it every weekend.

We submit complaint to the Municipality and it is now time for them to act and get the church been sorted out.

Election boundaries - make sure where you are registered!

Local government elections will take place within the next few months.

As ward boundaries have changed, people need to sms 32810 with ID numbers, to see where to vote and they will be told if they must re-register. People who go and vote and have stood in a queue, and are then told to go somewhere else to start again, will be fed up, so check your polling station beforehand!  Example: from Velspaat Street towards Modjadjiskloof, all the new developments (including Broadlands) need to register at Mitchell House.

Last registration weekend only about 20 new registrations took place there. That means people do not know about this and they will get a shock on voting day. At the last general election people could vote almost anywhere, but for the local election, YOU MUST VOTE WHERE YOU ARE REGISTERED. Next registration is 5/6 March. You can also go to the IEC at 15 Landdros Mare, near Marshall St, with your ID, and register there.

Invitation to participate in the Polokwane budget

Municipality invite members of the community to participate in the IDP/Budget Review Consultation meetings.

The IDP (integrated development program) is the document which forms the basis for the budget. The aim is for those who draw up the budget to get input from the community about their needs. The needs are then prioritised and budgeted for. That is how it is supposed to work, but, if people do not get to the IDP meeting and raise their voices they are not likely to be in the budget anyway.

Why do Polokwane residents pay a fee but all others don't?

Polokwane Prepaid Electricity Rates

We vend through the main vendor for Polokwane and on each transaction we receive a commission. The main vendor deducts 4% on each sale and our commission then gets paid from there.

On all the municipalities, excluding Polokwane, our clients get exactly the same number of units as if they are purchasing from the Municipality themselves.

But Polokwane is different (and we only discovered this recently); when purchasing from the Municipality directly there is NO charge to you. When purchasing from anyone else in town, the commission deducted differs from 4% to as high as 10%.

So on our SMS that you receive, you will see that the amount is different from the amount you paid by 4%.

Water account

At the end of February 2009 I received an account of R2400.00 from the Municipality for water usage.  I live in a 3 bedroom townhouse in Faranani Estate.  On 11 March 2009 I went to the Municipality to enquire about the huge account, since my account is usually about R130.00 (19 kl).  I saw on the sheet from which she captures the "journals" for the "water excess" that it reflected that my usage per month is actually 46 kl. I was informed that the previous accounts were estimated as the contractors doing the water meter reading could not get access to the water meter.   (Strangely enough the water meters for all 16 townhouses are all located outside the gate, with easy access).  When I told this to the lady assisting me, she commented on the poor system in the Municipality.  She said the contractors hired to do the readings, just didn't do what they are paid to do.  She advised me to make an arrangement to pay the account in installments and gave me a number and name of the person working with the meter readings.  She instructed me to phone this person around the 26th of the month and give her my water reading myself.

That same date I took my water reading, which was already 58 kl more than what was reflected on the previous account.  Today, after taking my meter reading it was only 10 kl more than on the 11th.  Thus can be ascertained that I do use about 20 kl per month.

When phoning the Municipality today to give them my water meter reading, my reference number on my account did not reflect on the system.  The lady told me that the contractors have never been sent out to this property as the property was not on their system.  (Even though I went to them myself 4 months ago to close the previous tenants account and open the account in my name).

So, now I have an account of R2400.00 for "previous" usage, as well as another R500 for this month also because of "previous" usage.  This is absolutely unacceptable.  How can any person be expected to dish up R3000 for water!  That is a whole years' worth of water!

I would like to know from the Municipality how they can give water accounts which reflect a reading and a reading date, not disclosing that it is an estimate, and still pay the contractors hired to do the job.  Also, how can the reference number not reflect on your system, but an account is sent out?
