JacarandaRMFM Cares was launched this morning in Polokwane with the handover of a car, cash and groceries to the first recipient.
Nols Breedt (64), a handyman from Polokwane, whose car with all his tools was stolen earlier this month, received a used car donated by BB Used Polokwane, a R5000 Builders Warehouse voucher from the Lions of Polokwane as well as a car boot filled with groceries courtesy of the Lions.
Breedt said he thought he would now have to become a beggar as he could not fend for himself without tools and transport, but that it would not come to that.
Dewald Hattingh, Station Manager of RMFM, said the JacarandaRMFM Cares-project was kick-started by the who donated R20 000 to the radio station with the request that it be used for worthy causes. That enabled JacarandaRMFM to start with their version of what is known in other provinces as the Jacaranda 94.2 Good Morning Angels.
Breedt was nominated by one of his daughters, Marie Mynhardt, who said she could not help him in any other way, and thought she would give it a chance as he could not work anymore and needed help urgently. Her email to RMFM paid off handsomely and the handyman is now ready to do repairs and maintenance for anyone in the city who wants to make use of him. He does steel works, small electrical jobs, plumbing, tiling, wood work, repairs in an around the house including swimming pools and general repairs and maintenance.
He can be contacted at 076 217 8990.
The weekly beneficiary of JacarandaRMFM Cares will be announced between 13:00 and 14:00 on the Friday afternoon show with Divan van de la Guerre on RMFM.
Hattingh said that JacarandaRMFM received offers from various businesses in the past that they would contribute to such a project. He said businesses and individuals want to help people who are in distress. He said it was not possible to help everyone, but that they would be making a difference in someone's life every week.
People in the JacarandaRMFM listeners area, namely Limpopo and the Mpumalanga lowveld will benefit. JacarandaRMFM has studios in Polokwane as well as Nelspruit (Mbombela).
Listeners of JacarandaRMFM can nominate people they think deserve a helping hand by sending an email to JacarandaRMFM.
The radio station has a bank account for the project and people who want to contribute cash can get the banking particulars by calling RMFM.
