At the end of the Boer War against King Makgoba (Magoeba) in 1893, Cmdt Gnl Piet Joubert had al the confiscated rifles of the Makgoba soldiers melted down. It was excavated in 1975 when the Polokwane Golf Course was built.

Today it stands outside the Polokwane Art Museum as a memorial to the history of the area.
